Chino, CA Family Dentist Provides Care Tips
At best, most people see their dentist once or twice a year for their cleanings, but many people don’t go to the dentist unless they are having a dental emergency. Dentists are a healthcare profession that are often taken for granted until you need one in a hurry. If you want to take charge of your oral health at home, so that you don’t have to worry as much between visits to the dentists, follow these steps to improve your oral health.
1. Always Brush Before Bed. Brushing after all your meals is ideal, but if you can't stop what you are doing to take care of your oral health throughout the day you should make brushing part of your nighttime routine for sure. Brushing your teeth before you go to sleep helps to protect against bacteria, plaque, cavities, and gum disease. If you have had cavities in the past, or are prone to them, you should brush after dinner AND before bed.
2. Don't Forget to Floss! Brushing only cleans 40% of the surface space of your teeth. You have to floss to get in between teeth and clear out plaque that hides in the tiny crevices. Plaque can turn to tarter that will lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing also rids your teeth of stuck food particles that can damage your gums or teeth.
3. Eat the Right Foods. Avoid foods that are sugary, will stain your teeth such as coffee, don't use tobacco, stay away from super crunchy or hard foods. These can all damage teeth and be bad for your oral and overall health. Eats lots of green salads, dairy, almonds, carrots, apples, and celery to boost your oral health and help to keep your teeth strong.
4. Stay Away from Soda. Drinking soda pop may taste good or give you a short-lived energy boost when you are feeling tired, but it is one of the worst drinks you should think about indulging in. Soda has a ton of sugar that causes cavities and tooth decay and the acids in soda wear away enamel and can lead to tooth sensitivity and enamel loss.
Brushing, flossing, and consuming the appropriate foods are the top four things you can do at home to make sure your oral health is great, and your teeth are super healthy! Your dental hygienist can recommend other methods at your biannual cleaning
